Biography: |
|
Sarah Jessica Parker was born on
25 March 1965, in Nelsonville, Ohio, to an aspiring
writer father, Stephen Parker, and an elementary
school teacher, Barbra. She had three siblings.
After her parents divorced, her mother married Paul
Forste who brought four children. Sarah now had
three full siblings and four half siblings.
Trained in singing and ballet, Sarah was cast in
the Broadway production of The Innocents, which
led her family to relocate to New Jersey. Sarah
then was cast in The Sound of Music along with her
four siblings, and landed the leading role in the
Broadway production of Annie from 1979 to 1980.
Sarah made her film debut in Rich Kids (1979)
and won her first starring role in Square Pegs (1982).
She received further attention for her role in the
hit Footloose (1984).
The next year, Sarah starred as well as danced in
Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Her success in both
films smoothed her way for steady work throughout
the decade.
Besides working in the film, Sarah also starred
in a number of TV shows, including the miniseries
A Year in the Life (1986)
and the drama series Equal Justice (1990).
In early '90s, Sarah starred alongside Steve Martin
in L.A. Story (1991),
as Nicholas Cage's fiancée in Honeymoon in
Vegas (1992), and as
the wife of Ed Wood in the biography film Ed Wood
(1994). Sarah also
garnered attention for her relationship with actor
Matthew Broderick whom she married in 1997.
After making a turn as Mia Farrow's daughter in
Miami Rhapsody (1995),
supporting roles in The First Wives Club (1996)
and Mars Attacks! (1996),
and a number of New York productions, Sarah landed
the starring role of New York sex columnist Carrie
Bradshaw on the HBO series Sex and the City in 1998,
alongside Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin
Davis. The show which focused on the sex lives of
four close friends became a huge hit and won Sarah
the Golden Globes in 2000, 2001 and 2002. |
