Joel (Jim
Carrey) is devastated when he discovers his
ex-girlfriend Clementine (Kate
Winslet) has undergone treatment to erase
all memories of their tempestuos relationship. Unable
to face living in a world where she does not even
remember him, Joel chases down the doctor (Tom
Wilkinson) and has the procedure performed
himself. As the doctor and his three assistants,
Mary (Kirsten Dunst),
Stan (Mark Ruffalo)
and Patrick (Elijah Wood)
invade Joel's head and erase his memories of the
woman he loves one by one, Joel begins to realise
he does not want to lose these memories.
In a desperate bid to save his memories, he tries
to stash precious moments in other parts of his
mind, far away from the prying of the professionals
he has hired to delete them. Yet this is the most
human film Kaufman has penned to date after his
latest kooky screenplay 'Adaptation'
and 'Being John Malkovich'.
